5 Reason to buy Simulated Diamonds
Let’s talk about diamonds for a second. Yes, they are sparkly. Yes, everyone wants to know how big it is. Yes, people are wondering how much it cost and how he can afford it.
Life these days is expensive. Did you know that conventional wisdom says one should spend 3 months salary on an engagement ring! Even the 5% of one's salary that “experts” suggest is crazy to me. I mean do you really want to start off married life in debt? Especially for something that doesn’t serve a need?
Here are 5 reasons why you should purchase Simulated Diamonds:
1.They are more affordable!
Wouldn’t it be nice to know you are going into a relationship not in debt, or instead of spending a ton of money on a ring you are able to afford some things that can have a bigger benefit in both your lives? You could use the money for a dream honeymoon, a down payment on your first home, pay off school debt, save for your child's education. You could even save it for a rainy day or retire early. If my fiance came to me and proposed the idea of a simulated ring and laid out all the things we could do with the money we saved I would have been all for it. I would have rather spent the money on an awesome experience than a diamond. Plus we aren’t having kids, so who am I going to leave it to anyway?
2. They are conflict-free
Besides the price tag, natural diamonds can come with a lot of ethical worries. Are the “blood diamonds”? Are the workers treated fairly? What about the toll on the environment? Yes, the diamond trade has gotten a lot better over the years and can provide decent jobs, but it still takes a lot of research to make sure they are coming from an ethical source. Then there is the environment. Take a minute and google “diamond mines”... Yup, shocked. Me too. We have one planet to leave to our children and we need and can do better.
3. Tons of options
With a lower price tag, your options open up vastly. You can get her the bigger rock, the fancier band, something that fits her personally not your pocketbook. Want to go a step up from a simulated diamond and get a synthetic or lab-grown you can. The possibilities are endless when you don’t have to worry so much about price.
4. Less worry if something happens to it.
Say you do spend 3 months' salary on a ring. That is one expensive piece of bling. Guess what is taken in robberies - jewelry. Or what happens if you are on vacation and it gets lost, stolen, misplaced. Yup. a big headache with the insurance company, if you have insurance. Yes it would be a bummer if you lost your simulated diamond ring as well (see point 5), but I would personally be happier losing a ring that cost a few hundred dollars instead of a few thousand.
5. In the end, it shouldn’t be about the ring.
I think we put too much emphasis on the ring. The ring is a symbol of love and commitment, and love and commitment doesn’t happen based on the cost of an engagement ring. We need to focus back on what is important, and that is love.
